The First Congregational Church of Mountain Home is very fortunate to have a lot of talent amongst its congregation. Our Chancel Choir, under the direction of Mr. Don Thoen, provides a beautiful anthem each Sunday during our service. On special occasions such as Christmas Eve and Easter the choir prepares extra music to add to the glory of the service. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm in the choir room and again on Sunday morning at 10:30 am. Please note that any changes in rehearsal time will be noted on the calendar page. During the months of June, July and August the choir takes a much deserved break and we encourage members of the congregation to provide special music.

Accompanying the choir on piano is Mrs. Ruth Schriener. Our church is blessed to have three very capable organists, Mrs. Dorraine Aggen, Mrs. Marlene Osborne and Mrs. Betty Parks. These ladies divide the organist’s duties and provide beautiful music during our services. Throughout the year we often have the addition of trumpets, flute and guitar. In 1999 under the direction of Mr. Mike Keas the first hand-bell choir began ringing bells. At that time we had the bell tables and 2 octaves of bells. The first time the bells rang was on Christmas Eve that same year with eight very nervous ringers. Over time and through the help of Women’s Fellowship we acquired beautiful covers for the tables, more music and ability. Now under the direction of Mr. Don Thoen the hand-bell choir performs throughout the year during services as well as community events.

At this time we do not have enough elementary school age children to have a Cherub Choir although we do look towards the future of having one again. Former Cherub Choir director Mrs. Louise King spent many hours working with the children on special music to perform for the congregation in addition to Christmas pageants. The Chancel Choir and Hand-Bell Choir invite anyone who is interested to join them. No special talent is necessary, only a willingness to put on a choir robe and sing or ring for the glory of God.
